TiPY: tech start-up, brand film & founder portrait

One hand is enough. Two schools show how.

Maze & Friends produced a brand film for the start-up TiPY about its one-handed keyboard and its founder. We filmed where the device is used: in lessons at two schools. For the founder’s story, the team shot at RIZ Gründerservice.

TiPY has developed a one-handed keyboard that combines keyboard and mouse in a single device and makes computer work accessible. To raise its profile, the start-up needed a brand film about the product and the founder’s story. Maze & Friends filmed at two schools where the keyboard is used in lessons, and at RIZ Gründerservice. The result: a brand film that shows the benefits, the accessibility and the founder, and makes TiPY better known.

You don’t explain a keyboard with words.

TiPY combines keyboard and mouse in one device, operated with one hand. You can work in applications and spreadsheets and write letters and texts without giving up any of the computer’s power. That makes the work faster and, above all, accessible. The catch: anyone who has never seen the keyboard in action finds it hard to picture.

Then there was a second story, the founder’s. Behind TiPY lie a vision, a lot of passion and the road through founding a company. The film was to show that too, authentically and approachably. What TiPY needed, then, was a brand film that connects technology and person and introduces the start-up to a wider audience.

“Can I really do everything with it that I would otherwise do with two hands?”
The question everyone asks on seeing TiPY for the first time.

How the project ran.

Every Maze & Friends project runs through the same nine steps, from the initial call to reporting. The list shows what actually happened in this project.

  1. 01Initial call

Product, founder, audiences: what should the film tell, and for whom?

  2. 02Concept and locations

Two storylines, product and founder. Plus the right places: schools and the RIZ.

  3. 03Shoot at two schools

The keyboard in lessons: practical, accessible use instead of a product demo.

  4. 04Shoot at RIZ Gründerservice

The origin story and the hurdles of founding a company, told in pictures.

  5. 05Edit and publication

A brand film that connects technology, use and founder.

Two stories, one film.

The film tells two stories in one. The first shows the product where it is needed: in lessons at two schools, where the one-handed keyboard is in practical, accessible use. The second leads to RIZ Gründerservice, to how TiPY came about and to the hurdles of founding a company. Together they show technology and people.

Real use instead of a studio

Real use instead of a studio

At two schools, we filmed the keyboard in lessons. You see the benefit straight away, and its relevance for educational institutions speaks for itself.

The scenes about the origin story were shot at RIZ Gründerservice. They give the film a personal touch and show the motivation behind TiPY.

Making accessibility visible

Making accessibility visible

The film shows that one hand is enough to work in applications, spreadsheets and texts. That speaks to schools as much as to anyone who needs an alternative to the classic keyboard.

What the brand film achieved.

Three things that last.

Film it in use

An everyday product belongs in everyday life. A lesson explains more than any demo.

The founder is the story

With start-ups, the person behind them counts too. The founder’s story gives the product a face.

Prove accessibility

If you promise accessibility, you have to prove it on screen. Real use in real situations builds trust.
