The chip is tiny. The question behind it is not.
For the biotechnology company Pregenerate, Maze & Friends produced a brand film and two reels. They show, with no prior knowledge needed, how organ-on-a-chip models, meaning cell models on a chip, lead to the right therapy for arthritis. The film also puts the company’s location in the Vienna Region in the frame.
Pregenerate is a biotechnology company in the Vienna Region. Its organ-on-a-chip models, meaning cell models on a chip, show how cartilage cells respond to inflammation and treatment. That makes it possible to find the right therapy for arthritis patients. Maze & Friends made this technology easy to understand with a storyboard and a brand film, and put the location in the picture. The result: a film for corporate communications and two reels for social media.
Research you cannot see.
Pregenerate develops organ-on-a-chip models. They make it possible to study, under true-to-life conditions, how cartilage cells respond to inflammation and to different treatments. Patients can then be divided into targeted treatment groups, and the right therapy can be found individually for their form of arthritis. This is precision medicine: the right treatment for the right group of patients.
For outsiders, that is hard to grasp. What happens on a chip with cartilage cells is invisible, and technical terms do little to help. The task: show the technology in a clear and convincing way, raise the company’s profile and make the product more tangible. And the film was to show the location in the Vienna Region at the same time.

“Which therapy will actually help my arthritis?”
The question behind the technology, and the thread running through the film and reels.
How the project ran.
Every Maze & Friends project runs through the same nine steps, from the initial call to reporting. The list shows what actually happened in this project.
01Alignment with the teamClose collaboration with Pregenerate: technology, key messages and patient benefit clarified.
02StoryboardKey messages and scientific detail translated into an easy-to-follow sequence of images.
03ShootThe technology and the company’s location in the Vienna Region captured on camera.
04Brand filmEdit focused on the technology and its direct benefit for patients.
05Two reelsShort cutdowns on individual aspects of the technology, optimised for social media.
01Initial call02Analysis03Proposal04Briefing05Workshop06Approval07Production08Launch09ReportingA film that translates.
It started with a storyboard that organises the key messages and scientific detail so they are easy to follow. The brand film shows both: how the technology works and what direct benefit it brings patients. At the same time, it puts the company’s location in the Vienna Region in the picture. Two reels pick up individual aspects of the technology and take them to social media.

Storyboard before camera
Before anything is shot, the story is in place. The storyboard arranges key messages and scientific detail so that they make sense even without prior knowledge.

Benefit at the centre
The film connects the technology with its direct benefit for patients. A chip model becomes a story about finding the right therapy for arthritis.

Two reels for social media
Shorter clips pick up individual aspects of the technology and its application. They spark interest among the target audience and raise Pregenerate’s visibility.
What the film and reels achieved.

Three things that last.

Understand first, then shoot
With complex research, clarity is created in the storyboard, not in the edit.

Benefit before jargon
Patients and partners first want to know what the technology does. How it works can wait for the second sentence.

Reels as door-openers
Short cutdowns on individual aspects take complex topics to where the target audience is already scrolling.
